Salt Spring Island GREENWISE: Ocean and Lake Public Beach Accesses

     This information comes principally from the SSI Community Water Access map prepared by the Capital Regional District (CRD), last updated 2007 May 02. This map is kept at the SSI Parks & Recreation Commission (PARC) office at Portlock Park. The public is welcome to view it there during office hours; tel. 250-537-4448.

of access and safety.

     Please do not rely on this or the CRD source map for accuracy of access. Beach accesses must be surveyed and marked to know exactly where they are.
      PARC states: "Please note that although these are public access points to lake and ocean front areas, through Ministry of Transportation's jurisdiction road ends, many (most of them) are not safe for public access, so please do take care when exploring."

     PARC has licences of occupation from the Ministry of Transportation for a few of Salt Spring's many beach accesses. PARC surveys these accesses and assumes liability. It has improved some of its licensed beach accesses, for safety and to demark the corridor. Other licensed beach accesses will be improved as budget allows.
